Most people, when they first spot Dobby, do a double take. Then a triple take. And then they just stare, completely caught off guard — because this seven-month-old kitten looks like no cat they’ve ever seen before.
Dobby was born with a rare genetic mutation that gave him something extra. Literally. He has a second set of ears sitting right behind the first.
It sounds almost cartoonish when you describe it, but when you actually see him? It’s one of those things that somehow makes him even more beautiful than a “regular” kitten. Different, yes. But stunning in a way that’s hard to explain.
Not Like the Others — And That’s the Point
His foster mom, a cat rescue volunteer out of Nashville, Tennessee, started calling him “purrfectly imperfect” the day she brought him home. The nickname stuck immediately.
“I’ve fostered a lot of cats over the years,” she said, laughing. “But the moment I saw Dobby, I thought — okay, this one’s different. He walked right up to me like he already knew me, and that was that.”
What strikes people most, beyond those four ears, is his personality. Dobby is calm, deeply affectionate, and absolutely thrives around people. He’s not shy. He doesn’t hide under the bed when guests come over.
He walks right up, blinks those wide kitten eyes, and waits to be noticed — which, given his appearance, never takes long.
A Kitten Who Leans Into Love
When he wants attention — and he usually does — Dobby doesn’t ask quietly. He finds a lap, tucks himself in, and makes himself comfortable like he’s been doing it his whole life. His foster mom says he practically invented the concept of the slow blink.
“He’ll just lean his whole little body into you,” she said. “Like he’s saying, okay, I’m here now, let’s relax. You can’t help but melt.”
Between cuddle sessions, he’s every bit the curious, playful seven-month-old he is. He investigates corners. He bats things off shelves. He sprints through the hallway at two in the morning for reasons only he understands. But even in his wildest moments, there’s something unusually gentle about him — a sweetness that’s hard to put your finger on but impossible to miss.
More Than Just a Cute Face
Dobby is currently in foster care and looking for his forever home. His future family will want to make sure he’s set up with a good pet wellness plan — while his mutation is cosmetic and hasn’t caused any health complications so far, routine veterinary care and regular checkups are always a smart investment for a kitten with a unique anatomy. Many adopters also choose to look into pet insurance early, especially for cats with any kind of genetic variation, just to have peace of mind down the road.
But beyond the practical stuff? He’s just a cat who wants a couch, a window, and someone who thinks he’s the most interesting thing they’ve ever seen. Given his four ears, that second part shouldn’t be too hard.
What Dobby Teaches Us Without Saying a Word
There’s something quietly powerful about a creature who was born different and doesn’t seem to know it — or doesn’t care. Dobby doesn’t carry any of the weight we might project onto his story. He just shows up, leans in, and offers everything he has.
And maybe that’s the whole lesson right there. That what makes us stand out doesn’t make us less worthy of love. Sometimes it makes us unforgettable.
Dobby certainly is.
