A gas stove is an essential kitchen helper, but it requires regular maintenance, especially the grates, which are constantly exposed to grease and grime.
If you haven’t cleaned your gas stove grates in a while, don’t rush to throw them away. Even in the most neglected cases, they can be restored using simple and accessible means.
You will need the following ingredients:
- Universal cleaning soap — 50 g
- Dry mustard — 10 tbsp
- Washing soda — 2 cups
- Boiling water — 2-3 liters
Here’s what you need to do:
- Grate the universal cleaning soap on a fine grater.
- Add dry mustard and washing soda to the soap.
- Pour boiling water over all the ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Place the grates in a bathtub or basin and pour the mustard solution over them.
- Add boiling water to ensure the grates are completely covered.
- Leave the grates in the solution for 2-3 hours.
- Use a brush to remove softened grease and grime.
- If the dirt is old and abundant, leave the grates in the solution overnight. For cast-iron grates, two hours will suffice. In addition to the grates, you can place glass lids and baking sheets in the solution.
After this treatment, the grates will look like new. Grease and grime will disappear without a trace.
This cleaning method does not require the use of chemicals, making it safe for health and the environment. It is also suitable for cast-iron grates, which are considered the most difficult to maintain.
